Bookies Era
Bookies Club 870 and.... Untamed Detroit
Ongoing Series from 1975 - 1989
Music and art were the impetus for our social existence in Detroit during those Golden Days. Everybody wanted to play Bookies Club 870 on McNichols in Detroit. We gave the loudest and the most enthusiastic support. My friends and I ran in a pack of about 15 wild kids in their teens and twenties, we were the party. Photographers, musicians, artists, budding with brilliance and fearlessness, making waves in the Punk and Detroit art scene.
Bookies was our home. We showed up for each other’s bands, photographed our joy and innocence (well..) and danced till we dropped. Numerous books and documentaries have been written about Bookies recording that time period. Life Magazine did a feature story about the Club. Many of our friends are now stardust, I’m thankful we recorded our joy.
Dangerous, wild, fearless, free of inhibitions. What a ride, Damn, that was fun!
