When I captured the single image, I could not have envisioned the bird man. By layering the 2 images together, it brought to mind all of the stuffed birds Dali had in his home. Although gruesome, the numerous dead animals were a sign of wealth, according to the didactic. The single image is a small overhang on the back porch.

Leaving, Malaga, Spain 2023 Archival pigment print 20 in x 30 in

It was our last day in Spain, very early in the morning. The sun was rising over the mountains and as I walked outside I saw the shadow of a tower, small compared to our airport towers. The lines were sharp from the direct hot sun, creating an mesmerizing design. My layered shadow was from the previous day at the pier, watching wild parakeets feeding with doves. A lovely end to our adventure. All of the images have a sepia/warm tone.

Heat, Malaga, Spain 2023 Archival pigment print 20 in x 30 in

Malaga was our most southern visit to Spain. The heat was daunting at times and English was not heard or spoken willingly. My shadow image was playfully trying to ward off the heat and I felt as though I was caged in by the heat and my lack of Spanish. All of the images have a sepia/warm tone. Although there were bright and saturated colors, I was captivated by the golden warm subtle tones.

Spaced Aliens, Malaga, Spain 2023

Archival pigment print 20 in x 30 in

The Ginkgo leaves were captured on Alexandrine, Detroit, 2022. The origin of Ginkgo trees is thousands of years old, survivors. The aliens layered on the leaves were shadow images at sunrise on the walls of the entrance to Malaga, Spain airport. The appeared to be ancient, obscured by the distance and the length of the lens. I wondered where they were from, where they were going, and if they were indeed ancient.

Frida in Granada, Spain 2023 Archival pigment print 20 in x 30 in

Frida Kahlo images were in outdoor shops throughout Spain. As I walking walking through the narrow streets in Granada, I looked down at my shadow and saw Frida. It was the hair, her narrow shoulders, her traditional frock. That same night I had a dream that I met her and we had cocktails as we admired her garden. My dreams are a monumental part of my art and spirituality. In my minds eye, her spirit was awakened through my shadow.

Aunties, Llanca, Catalonia, Spain Archival pigment print 20 in x 30 in

The garden in the back of my friends home had a clothes line where we would hang our wet sea clothes after our daily swims. The blue is an homage to the sea. The bottom layer of the image is a shadow of the line with clothes pins. It brought to mind visiting our kin in Tennessee as a child during the hottest months of the year. My aunties and mama would draw water from the well, heat it, and wash our clothes in the metal wash tub. It was the same tub they bathed us in. As kids, we would run and play in the red earth, often stirring up dust or pulling the clothes off the line. Trouble was to be had if we messed with their tiresome, hand washed laundry. The image represents me trying to grasp that line to save it and me from trouble. By mirroring the image, it created aprons always worn by the women, blowing in the wind. Fond memories of my youth and of Llance, Catalonia, Spain.

The Sea, Llanca, Catalonia, Spain Archival pigment print 20 in x 30 in

Swimming in the Mediterranean Sea fulfilled a childhood fantasy. There aren't any animals that can eat you and the water is so salty, everyone floats. Being in the impossible blue was a deeply spiritual experience. The energy was divergent. We swam at 6 different beaches along the coast, volcanic, rocky, fierce. As I swam far into the sea, I envisioned myself from a drone photo in slow motion as I floated, dove and glided through the water. The image is my numerous swims, layered from beach to beach. I long to return to Llanca, Catalonia, Spain.

Out of France Archival pigment print 20 in x 30 in

We went to France for lunch one afternoon as it was only 9 miles from Llanca, Catalonia, Spain where were staying. Being a naive world traveler, I wasn't thinking of the EU and that I would not get stamps in my passport at border crossing. The French boarder station was trashed, graffiti and broken windows greeted us. It was surreal and not what I had envisioned - I had Hollywood eyes. Therefore, I danced..
